Job Shadowing in Turkey
When? 13-20 July 2012, Ankara
Youth for Understanding (YfU) Office in Ankara is E-gençlik’s and ISDA’s (International Sustainable Development Foundation) partner organization for LLL’s job shadowing leg. Youth for Understanding Ankara Office is located in one of the most lively, dynamic areas of Ankara with staff of 5 professionals and a high number of volunteers. Youth for Understanding is a global NGO that targets mobility and intercultural exchange among students. Their main area of expertise is student exchanges with home stays in the destination country. The idea is to give young people an understanding of living together in different cultures prior to adulthood and enabling them to become global citizens.
The suggested dates for the job shadowing are July 12-21 2012, including travel days. This week is especially good for our volunteers and the organization since this will be YfU’s pre-departure training week when all exchangers meet together under the supervision of a trainer to learn about do’s and don’ts while travelling, how to overcome intercultural challenges and what to do during the transition phase in the country of destination. During this week, our volunteers will have access to this training and we’d highly appreciate any information they could give on South America in general and Venezuela and Argentina in particular.
The Job Shadowing starts on Friday, July 13 2012, with an introduction to the YfU’s activities and orientation to Turkey and Turkish culture. The main focus of the second and third days will be the pre-departure training. On the fourth and fifth days, there’ll be NGO (among which the Turkish Educational Foundation, Turkish Democracy Foundation, the Flying Broom and Purple Roof (women NGOs) are planned) and Turkish National Agency visits. On the sixth day, we foresee a visit to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Office in Ankara in the morning. In the afternoon, wrap-up and evaluation of the Job Shadowing and a farewell dinner are foreseen.
In addition to working days of JS, we are planning to offer our volunteers the opportunity to travel on the weekend of July 14-15 with us to Mardin, an ancient Mesopotamian town in Turkey’s south-east, where the headquarters of ISDA and E-gençlik are currently based. These are not planned as working days, however, our volunteers will certainly have the chance to observe voluntarism, local actions and social development in Turkey’s south-east.
We will assist you with invitations so that you can submit an official document to your office, school etc. Venezuelans and Argentineans do not require a visa to enter Turkey. So, just find a good ticket to Ankara and consult with us on the travel days and times. And then…
